Invitation to the opening and viewing of Back to Eden exhibition

Cameras rolling – all set up for filming… a documentary on Volpower project with APIS Institute that started in Bolzano, Italy. 6 more countries to go.
The project and thus the documentary explore the power culture and sports have in bridging individuals from different cultures.
Remembering makes us more human. Along the 77th anniversary of the liberation of the former Italian fascist camp Kampor on the island of Rab, APIS Institute’s team, which I am part of, created a video narrative about the evil of Mussolini’s fascism in five languages.
I was using my photographs, animating them, adding archival photographs, text written by colleagues Saša Petejan and dr. Urška Strle, as well as sound, composed by Ali R. Taha, into the video, which you are kindly invited to see on the links bellow.

The art book Trubarjeva, Expressions of A Street in Transition, offers an intimate and anecdotal look at Trubarjeva street and the special life that has grown out of it over the decades, even centuries. The authors explore this unique street in the Slovenian capital Ljubljana through different artistic approaches and practices – through writing, photography, architectural sketches, collage and graphic design. An array of people’s stories as well as other verbal and visual testimonials are all interwoven to create this thoughtful and compelling – and visually flamboyant – publication.

In 2019 I have participated as a mentor of the photographic module and as part of the Institute APIS team in the MULTIVIZIJA Project: multimedia, theatre and dance training for Vulnerable groups, that is carried out by the APIS Institute and a partner consortium.
The primary objective of the project is to train members of vulnerable social groups ( (over 50) – especially people with mobility disabilities, refugees and immigrants, in the fields of photography, video, sound, dance and theatrical play, with an emphasis on the Theater of the Oppressed. The starting point of the project encourages “artistic expressions” that thematise patterns of stigmatisation due to differentness and related victimisation as a form of exploring different options, how to use the art form as a tool of empowerment, a tool for acquiring new knowledge for higher employability, a tool for mobilising, motivating and promoting the proactive action of vulnerable groups.

I have curated the exhibition One day in the Mediterranean, which has had another opening, this time in Cyprus. The exhibition presenting results of a collective photo action FRAME Photo Marathon was prepared in cooperation with APIS Institute, the Embassy of RS Athens, The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Slovenia, and FRAME from Beirut. It accompanied the working visit of the Slovenian and Cypriot Foreign Affairs ministers, which aimed to deepen the interrelations between the two countries. On view in Limassol up to 17. november 2019.
*Thank you Syntonistiko Symvoulio Politistikon Foreon Lemesou for cooperation and for the exhibition images
Hosted as part of the Rijeka 2020, European Capital of Culture programme, the photographic-documentary exhibition Last Witnesses contributes to the preservation of the historical memory of internment in Italian fascist camps for the sixth consecutive year. The guests at the opening will be last living witnesses of the internment in years 1942 and 1943.
The Croatian exhibition opening is announced on September 14, 2019 at the Principij Gallery in Rijeka. The focus of the exhibition is on the survivors, their relatives and friends from Slovenia and the purpose is to try and breake through a politically induced historic amnesia.
You can view the project, which was also published in a book form in 2016, through its web site: www.guardiansofthespoon.com

Renowned and award-winning Slovenian architect Blaž Budja, graphic designer Sava Kosmač, writer Jeff Bickert and I have joined a collaborative process, interviewing creative mediums to document the life of a unique street of Ljubljana where local initiatives, family businesses, world cuisine, artistic, activistic initiatives, and multicultural social businesses coexist in a vibrant equilibrium with graffiti, various street art approaches, and lively squat area.
Out purpose is to emphasize what is special, perhaps unique, and in the light of the current refurbishment, is worthwhile to “handle with care”.
The project, co-financed by the City of Ljubljana, will come to fruition at the end of 2019 in the form of a printed publication – an art book, spatial interventions on Trubarjeva Street and a website.
